I did a post about my browser preferences a while back and a couple of things have changed since then so I figured I’d make a new post. Last time was more Chrome vs Firefox but, as you may’ve guessed by the title, I’m sticking to firmly hating on Fire
cocks this time. Chrome has, by the by, been nothing short of an ideal browser.
Why the hate?
Okay so firstly I’ll salute Mozilla for fixing the email problem I was having. Not too sure if it was Yahoo! or Mozilla who fixed it, but whatever, it’s fixed, so at least the browser is good for email. This, however, is unfortunately just about the only thing they got right.
For starters, the add-ons. Firefox with always heavily reliant on extensions to sell itself and the devs have mostly all moved onto other things, leaving all the good extensions incompatible with the latest version. Mozilla also took to ridiculous version numbering (version 4.0 shooting to version 5.0 in a matter of months when it took quite a few years between versions 1-3), for the sole pathetic reason to “not seem outdated in comparison to Chrome, which is on v12”. They should be focused on their own browser. Their fixation with Chrome is evident when, with I think 4.0, they put their tabs above the address bar by default. Mozilla were really pioneering with Firefox but with moves like that it seems like now all they’re doing is playing copycat. They’ve lost their spark and their originality.
-I couldn’t argue with their marketing though
Firefox is by all means a decent browser, especially on my 17” laptop. It’s displayed great. My pc uses a 37” television and displays Firefox terribly, which I mentioned in my last post. Chrome is displayed perfectly and this issue has been has been around for too long. Mozilla to me seem lazy, probably because they’ve enjoyed one too many successes.
-My browser of choice.
It’s a shame to see Firefox a shadow of it’s former self, especially when terrible browsers like IE have improved so much in the space of time FF has essentially done fuck all.
On a similar not, Microsoft Security Essentials has been a very impressive antivirus with the exception that lately it’s been saying I haven’t ran a scan in a while immediately after I’ve ran a scan. The fuck?
